Monday Ride through Fort Clinch

Some friends who ride with the island bike group commissioned me to paint a view of the canopy road in Fort Clinch for their new house.  The Amelia Island bike group rides this at least twice a week as part of their regular routes.  The sun and shadows are ever changing and mysterious on that stretch of road and there is always something new to stop and look at.

Egan's Creek January Colors

I am still getting warmed up on painting the local landscape for a commission.  This is from a photo I took while walking the greenway here last winter.  That landscape is a constantly changing color palette and on this day it had a lot of lavender and mauve tones in the grasses.

Littoral

One of the things I see when we are driving along the river on Hecksher Drive, are fleeting glimpses of the navy's littoral combat ship.  They appear off in the distance at the Mayport Naval station and sometimes closer in while being worked on at BAE.  Ships at BAE are often shrouded in a white plastic covering over large parts which gives them a very sculptural look, as if they weren't quite fully carved.  Anyway, this is an impression from those sightings.
