Really using up the lino block...

There wasn't anything left of the block when this one was finished.  Cactus bloom is 12 x 12, 13 color linocut reduction print on Thai Mulberry paper.  These cactus blooms used to be all along the road at the Fort Clinch beach access but they have kind of dwindled away in recent years.  I took the photos used for this at least 10 years ago now.

Stormy Bonavista

At the Cape
12 x 12 linocut reduction print

I have been back at printmaking and working on an image from this fall's trip to Newfoundland.  This is a hand printed 13 color reduction linocut print,  12 x 12, on Awagami Shiramine paper, edition of 6.  I was working with old, hard, crumbly linoleum that was in the studio but still  managed to get a print from what was at hand.

More Canna Love

The last canna bloom hung on until just this week and led to a small series from my garden photos of this past year.

A Little Marsh for this Windy Day

It has been cold and windy here in NE Florida which may have influenced the painting of this little marsh scene.

Canna Lily

As the last of the canna lilies lose their blooms I painted a series of small oils to capture how amazing they were this year.  Here is the first of the four that came from this year's gardens.

Sketching Newfoundland

These 6 sketches from our recent trip to Newfoundland show some of my favorite hikes from this trip.  We had all the kinds of weather while there... They are all colored pencil,  6.5 x 9.5 (image size) on black watercolor paper.

Morning Walk

I caught the sun and shadows playing on the buildings during a morning dog walk here in town.  The white building is home to the Crab Trap restaurant and a the yellow one is the former home of Standard Marine.  Both are historic structure in our downtown district.

Greenway Walk

In the winter when friends from up north are here we have a group of women that takes a regular walk every few weeks.  This is from a photo taken on a winter walk when the greenway trees were just beginning to bud out in a deep red.

Storm on the Canyon

I painted this from a small thumbnail sketch in one of the sketchbooks I have hanging around.  I believe it is Frijoles Canyon near Bandolier in New Mexico.

Evolving Imagery

Below is an example of how some images evolve in different media over a period of time.  I found a photo of cottonwoods on the Rio Grande in my pictures from past trips and initially produced the watercolor sketch.  After a while I used the sketch as the basis for the oil painting, then did a quick pastel sketch as a preliminary for a print.  The print is actually backward of the original image which I did on purpose to see how it would look in that direction and the colors are significantly altered from the prior images.  As I can no longer find the original photo image this is probably it for this iteration.

Bird Study Just for Fun

I was looking at a few small sketches and studies that I had done from looking at Bird of Paradise plants in my garden over the past few years.  This painting takes some of those images from the watercolors and explores them in oil.  The actual plants got zapped by the freezes this past winter and had to be cut to the ground, so it may be a few more years before they produce the masses of flowers again.  The leaves are well on their way back and give amazing color and texture variations every year as they go through the seasons which is the basis of most of this piece.

Hollyhocks

Another go at Moku Hanga printmaking but using a reduction method instead of multiple blocks. This  7 color reduction print is on Rives paper.
