As the fires threaten communities in New Mexico and Colorado, I thought of the river flowing on the way to Taos. I am working from a series of rough sketches to loosen up a bit and this one is from photos I have taken and a remembered image between Santa Fe and Taos.

We recently took the "pirate cruise" with friends around the Amelia River and the creeks of Cumberland Island. It was a bit overcast and we just beat the thunderstorm back to town. This painting is from references I took that stormy evening before the real clouds rolled in.

The light on the marsh creek here changes colors hourly some days and the evening can bring soft pastels to the sky.

I am still ignoring the large blank canvas on my easel and playing with some paper I found in the studio. In Bordeaux, out in the country there were winding roads with roundabout kind of intersections in the chateaux areas. I imagined they would look something like this from above.

I have been trying to get back into the studio work after traveling and have been playing around with some handmade cotton paper I had in my stash. This is a mixed media painting using ink, watercolor, acylic and finally oil. The image is from remembering a drive up Red Mountain on the way to Ouray Colorado on a fall day.

Last year we had hummingbirds visit our red canna lily plants and I am hoping to see them return again this fall. The cannas are up and blooming so hopes are high! UPDATE they have arrived!

The shoreline around Brownsdale and Sibley's Cove in Nefoundland is dominated by rock shelves that lead down to the water. The rocks are an amazing variation of colors. I have tried to capture some of that variation in this print and have included some of the process photos that show a bit of how it came together.

I have been experimenting with limited color palettes on a project with the artist group I am part of and this particular tetrad: yellow orange, red orange, blue green, and blue violet, has so far been my favorite. This painting uses only those 4 colors plus white.

This year's friends and family New Years card is ready to go out in the post. And yes, the hummingbird is definitely giving some side-eye to 2025. This is a 5 color, one block, Moku Hanga print on Japanese washi paper.
I have had a few Japanese Shina wood blocks in the studio for a while and finally decided to give the Moku Hanga printmaking adventures another shot. This print is of a great blue heron that hangs out fishing the upper part of the Egan's Creek greenway here on the island.
The print is for a print exchange so a limited edition of 11 were made for that, and there are a couple of artist proofs that will be available for sale at the IAA gallery. Some of the progress shots are below.
